Penguin Solutions' Growing Backlog Signals Improving Revenue Visibility

Penguin Solutions, Inc. is seeing improving revenue visibility as AI-driven demand continues to outpace net sales growth, contributing to a growing backlog. The company exited the third quarter of fiscal 2026 with a very strong backlog, particularly in Integrated Memory, where revenues jumped more than 111% year over year to $275 million, while AI-driven businesses represented 74% of total revenues and grew 104%. Management said bookings in the AI Infrastructure business generally convert into revenues within three to six months, providing an advantage heading into fiscal 2027, and the company has "pretty good visibility" into the first half of fiscal 2027. The pipeline also strengthened across enterprise, sovereign AI, and neocloud customers, with MemoryAI appliances and CXL memory expansion cards generating both revenues and new bookings. Penguin Solutions raised its fiscal 2026 outlook and expects roughly 30% net sales growth in fiscal 2027 from the midpoint of that outlook. Rivals Dell Technologies and Vertiv Holdings also benefit from the trend, with Dell reporting a record $51.3 billion AI backlog and Vertiv seeing strong backlog and pipeline momentum. Penguin Solutions shares have surged 107.6% over the past year, and the Zacks Consensus Estimate for fiscal 2026 and fiscal 2027 earnings is $2.60 and $3.40 per share, respectively, with both estimates revised upward.

Dell's AI Rally Faces Key Earnings Test

Dell Technologies is set to face its next big test as its AI-driven stock surge meets upcoming earnings. The company's shares have gained over 235% in 2026, fueled by soaring demand for AI servers and infrastructure. Evercore ISI analyst Amit Daryanani maintains an Outperform rating with a $550 price target ahead of Dell's Sept. 1 results. In its last report, Dell booked $24.4 billion in AI orders, made $16.1 billion in AI server revenue, and ended with a record $51.3 billion backlog. Evercore expects Dell to exceed Wall Street's fiscal second-quarter projections and raise its fiscal 2027 forecast, with strong spending from AI customers like CoreWeave and SpaceX potentially boosting demand. However, after such a significant surge, even meeting expectations may not suffice, and Dell must demonstrate that AI demand is robust enough to sustain revenue and outlook.

Salesforce CEO Benioff Says Enterprise AI Adoption Is Still Just Beginning

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said enterprise adoption of artificial intelligence remains in its early stages despite rapid advances in consumer-facing tools, agents and AI-powered interfaces. Speaking at The Six Five Summit: AI Unleashed 2026, Benioff characterized the market as "a tale of two cities," noting that while technology leaders closely follow developments in models, agents and AI infrastructure, many large companies have yet to begin a broad AI transformation. He said the vast majority of customers are still at the beginning of their AI journey, citing the need for enterprises to preserve security, governance, compliance and control over their information systems as they incorporate AI. Benioff described the evolution of enterprise AI in three phases: prompting large language models using public data sets, the "agentic enterprise" in which AI agents can be directed to perform work, and a third phase focused on interfaces that can create dynamic views of enterprise data and applications while operating alongside established, rules-based systems. He said companies are unlikely to replace all existing systems such as Salesforce, Microsoft, SAP or data lakes, but instead will amplify those investments with new AI capabilities, including composite and personalized interfaces. Benioff pointed to several internal Salesforce deployments as examples, including a customer-support agent called Casey that has resolved 5 million customer-service issues on help.salesforce.com, a Slackbot that helps users interpret Slack data, and an internal supply-chain agent called Marshall to support supplier management. He also said Dell uses a Salesforce supply-chain product called Regrello to contact 20,000 suppliers daily through agents, helping identify potential supply-chain issues through a red, yellow and green status system. Benioff outlined four layers that companies need to address as they build AI-enabled enterprise systems: data, applications and semantic layers, agentic capabilities, and interfaces. He said Salesforce has invested in this approach through its products and acquisitions, citing Informatica for data harmonization, MuleSoft for data integration, Data 360 for data-lake capabilities, Agentforce for agents, and Slackbot, as well as the purchases of Qualified and Regrello. Benioff pushed back on concerns that AI will eliminate opportunities for young computer-science graduates, saying Salesforce is hiring recent graduates and needs workers who can assemble governed AI systems for enterprises and governments.

Morgan Stanley sees storage strengthening, PC demand deteriorating

Morgan Stanley's latest value-added reseller checks show enterprise infrastructure spending remains strong but is diverging across hardware categories, with storage strengthening, servers staying well above historical levels, and PCs eroding. Analyst Erik Woodring said third-quarter enterprise hardware spending is tracking in line to slightly above expectations set 30 days ago, helped by large enterprise demand, healthy mid-market spending, and incremental improvement in the public sector. Storage demand is running ahead of prior expectations for the September quarter, with year-over-year growth expected to accelerate from the second quarter, and the reseller believes the momentum of recent quarters remains in the very early stages, potentially supporting a multi-year cycle. Server demand remains exceptionally strong, though the bank flagged fewer and smaller deals and longer sales cycles than a month ago, with the moderation most pronounced in financial services, but it does not read this as material deterioration. PCs saw the sharpest deterioration, with the reseller now expecting third-quarter growth near 6%, down from roughly 10% previously.

Wall Street forecasts Dell's fiscal 2027 sales to jump 50% to about $171 billion with over $11 billion in net income, while Planet Labs is expected to widen its net loss to about $306 million on sales of $436 million. The analysis concludes that Dell's exposure to the AI data center wave makes it a more compelling buy in 2026, given its lower valuation multiples and strong cash generation.

AI Stocks Tumble After WSJ Reports NVIDIA May Guarantee $250 Billion for OpenAI Data Centers

NVIDIA shares dropped 5% to $197, Advanced Micro Devices fell 8% to $479, Intel declined 4% to $89, and Dell Technologies slid 4% to $421. The report reignited concerns about circular financing, where NVIDIA would fund a customer that then buys its GPUs. Despite the selloff, NVIDIA guides $91 billion in second-quarter fiscal 2027 revenue, AMD's data center segment grew 57% year-over-year last quarter, and Dell booked $24.4 billion of AI orders in a single quarter.

S&P 500 Futures Edge Lower as Rising Yields and Energy Jitters Weigh

US stock futures are pointing slightly lower as investors weigh higher bond yields and firm energy prices against softer jobs data. The US 10-year Treasury yield is trading near a two-month high around 4.63%, keeping borrowing costs elevated, while a surprise US crude inventory build of 2.6 million barrels and emergency reserves at a 43-year low keep energy costs in focus. ADP private hiring continues to slow, raising questions about whether rate-sensitive sectors like banks and real estate or economically sensitive areas like consumer and small-cap stocks should be the priority for portfolio risk. Among top movers, Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies jumped 10.04% after Q2 results and a higher BofA price target, Dell Technologies surged 9.32%, and EQT gained 8.45% after analysts raised price targets following Q2 performance and cash flow metrics. On the losing side, Boxabl declined 23.85%, Innio declined 9.66%, and GE Vernova declined 8.69% following a share buyback tranche update filing. Earnings from Intel, Honeywell International, Blackstone, and NextEra Energy are on the radar, with Intel reporting Q2 results after the market close on Thursday.

Dell Technologies surged 9.32 percent on Wednesday to close at $441.80 per share, driven by investor optimism over surging demand for AI servers using Nvidia chips. Zuckerberg becomes world's fifth richest at $222 billion after Meta stock rebound

Mark Zuckerberg's net worth surged to $222.1 billion, making him the fifth-richest person globally, after Meta Platforms shares rallied 21% through mid-July and added roughly $270 billion in market capitalization. The rebound was fueled by reports that Meta is building a cloud business to sell excess AI computing power and plans to begin manufacturing a custom AI chip code-named Iris in September. Zuckerberg leapfrogged Michael Dell, whose fortune slipped to $221.1 billion as Dell Technologies shares declined more than 18% from a June high. Meta's first quarter 2026 revenue rose 33% to $56.3 billion, with operating income of $22.9 billion and a 41% margin, though heavy infrastructure spending kept free cash flow at $12.4 billion. Analysts remain focused on whether Meta can turn its AI infrastructure into a meaningful revenue generator, with Evercore ISI's Mark Mahaney maintaining an outperform rating and a $930 price target.

Jim Cramer defends his bullish Dell stance as investors complain about missing the rally

Jim Cramer addressed viewer complaints that he kept them out of stocks that have surged this year, including Dell Technologies up 221%, during Tuesday's Mad Money episode. Cramer stated he has been positive on Dell for a long time and believes Michael Dell would call him the most positive media voice on the company, while also emphasizing the importance of diversification after recent sharp sell-offs in those names. He previously expressed regret over missing Dell's rally, noting the stock never dipped after he placed it in his trust's bullpen, and attributed the missed opportunity to being too skeptical. Dell's stock has gained over 216% this year amid a pivot to enterprise AI infrastructure, with Evercore ISI raising its price target to $500 and the company guiding for 47% full-year revenue growth backed by a projected 144% surge in AI server sales.
