Super Micro's strong gross margins highlight prelim results, positives for Nvidia, Dell

Wedbush said that significantly stronger gross margins highlighted Super Micro Computer's preliminary update for its fiscal fourth quarter results and also indicated positives for Dell, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, and Nvidia. Super Micro shares surged about 16% premarket on Wednesday after the company said GAAP and non-GAAP gross margins are estimated to be in the range of 15% to 17%, higher than its guidance of 8.2% to 8.4%, mainly due to a favorable customer and product mix. The AI infrastructure solutions provider also said that revenues for the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2026 are estimated to be near the low end of its guidance range of $11 billion to $12.5 billion, with the consensus revenue estimate at $11.68 billion. Analyst Matt Bryson noted that if system shortages driven by a lack of component availability are allowing for more favorable pricing, this dynamic could persist and Super Micro might produce meaningfully better gross margins and earnings per share than previously anticipated in the third calendar quarter of 2026 and possibly for several quarters. Bryson added that the sharp increase in order backlog fits with feedback suggesting large future data center orders, and that shortages of server components can only be seen as positive for the broader supply chain, with Nvidia arguably the largest single beneficiary given that the vast bulk of OEM and Super Micro AI server builds rely on Nvidia GPUs and Nvidia has done the best job of any component vendor in securing its supply chain. Wedbush maintained its Neutral rating and $34 price target on Super Micro's stock.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella Warns of Enterprise AI Data Leakage as Server Backlogs Hit $57 Billion

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella warned that enterprises face a fundamental imbalance in AI deployment, paying twice for intelligence while leaking proprietary knowledge through model interactions. In a July 12 essay, he argued that every prompt and correction becomes exhaust that reveals how an organization operates, urging companies to run AI within their own tenant boundary to counter this Reverse Information Paradox. Hewlett Packard Enterprise reported a $6 billion AI server backlog, roughly 60% from sovereign nations and enterprise clients, while Dell Technologies exited last quarter with a $51 billion backlog amid growing demand for on-premise solutions. The combined server backlogs of these two companies alone have reached $57 billion, underscoring the scale of enterprise investment in controlled AI infrastructure. Nadella's essay aligns with Microsoft's positioning through Azure AI Foundry, which offers model-agnostic orchestration for hybrid cloud and on-premise deployments.

Bernstein survey shows IBM spending intentions remain deeply negative

A Bernstein survey of 100 U.S. and European CIOs found net spending intentions for IBM remain deeply negative and continue to deteriorate, even as overall CIO expectations for IT spending stayed broadly constructive. Analyst Mark Newman said Bernstein forecasts 2026 IT spending growth in line with Gartner's estimated 12%, noting sentiment has diverged regionally, with European CIOs becoming more pessimistic than their American counterparts. Cybersecurity software remained the top spending priority, followed by GenAI and storage, while spending intentions were weakest for traditional infrastructure categories including x86 servers, mainframes and printers. Across vendors, IBM alongside HP Inc. and HPE showed deeply negative net spending intentions, though HP and HPE were both improving, while Dell continued to fare better than its infrastructure peers and also improved versus prior surveys. In cloud and software, Microsoft, Amazon and ServiceNow ranked highest, with Microsoft and OpenAI viewed as the leading long-term AI platforms.

Everpure and NetApp Stocks Jump as IBM Warning Signals Enterprise IT Spending Shift to Hardware

Shares of hardware and infrastructure companies Everpure and NetApp rose sharply after IBM issued a revenue warning that indicated enterprise IT budgets are pivoting toward server and memory purchases. IBM pre-announced adjusted earnings of $2.93 per share on $17.2 billion in revenue, missing Wall Street estimates, with CEO Arvind Krishna attributing the shortfall to clients suddenly reallocating capital expenditure toward servers, storage, and memory in late June. The news sent Dell Technologies and Hewlett Packard Enterprise higher, while IBM dropped, highlighting a divergence between hardware vendors and traditional software or consulting providers. Everpure jumped 3.8% and NetApp surged 6.4% as analysts at Morgan Stanley noted the dynamic suggests strong enterprise demand for physical infrastructure driven by hardware refresh cycles and AI-related compute shortages. However, the surge may partly reflect short-term panic-buying ahead of expected price increases, and the durability of the trend will depend on sustained backlog growth in upcoming quarterly reports from Dell and HPE.

Dell rose 7.7% and Hewlett Packard Enterprise gained 5.3% as analysts at Morgan Stanley noted the dynamic illustrates how hardware refresh cycles and AI-related compute shortages are forcing companies to accept significant price increases for physical infrastructure.
