OMRON Corporation was founded in 1933 and is headquartered in Kyoto, Japan.

Omron's blood pressure monitors and unmanned station systems remain profit pillars

In Omron's first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2027, the healthcare business emerged as a second pillar after the control equipment business, with home blood pressure monitors doubling operating profit year on year. The control equipment business posted external revenue of 131.2 billion yen, up 37.2 percent year on year, and operating profit of 21.3 billion yen, up 100.8 percent, while the healthcare business recorded external revenue of 36.4 billion yen, up 16.7 percent, and operating profit of 2.4 billion yen, up 101.7 percent, slightly outpacing the control equipment business in growth rate. The company launched its first blood pressure monitor in 1973 and put the world's first unmanned station system into operation at Hankyu Kita-Senri Station in 1967, and these origins have been carried on in the current healthcare and social systems businesses. The social systems business posted external revenue of 24.2 billion yen, down 2.0 percent year on year, while the data solutions business recorded 13.1 billion yen, up 22.8 percent. The share price rose about 20 percent in roughly one month from 5,358 yen on July 21 to 6,436 yen on August 19, but has since pulled back from a peak of 7,043 yen on August 17, with a price-to-earnings ratio of 31.25 times and a price-to-book ratio of 1.52 times.

Mentions of rare earths in Japanese corporate filings surge since May, as China's restrictions seen as a risk

An analysis by Reuters has found that the number of Japanese listed companies mentioning rare earths in their annual securities reports and other filings has surged since May this year, with the scope also broadening. Until April, the number of companies making such mentions was below 40 in most months, but it rose to 86 in May and 105 in June, doubling compared to the same period a year earlier. More than two-thirds of these companies stated that there is an impact on their performance or business activities, or that such an impact could materialize in the future. Until April, mentions were mainly concentrated in capital goods such as machinery and materials-related sectors, but from May onward they spread to general consumer goods and electronics-related sectors, with Citizen Watch and Omron also listing it as a risk factor. China introduced export restrictions on heavy rare earths and magnets in April 2025, and strengthened restrictions targeting Japan in January this year. Customs data shows that exports of terbium and dysprosium oxide to Japan have been halted since November last year.
