NuScale Power Could Secure Power Purchase Agreement by End of 2026, CEO Says

NuScale Power may soon sign a power purchase agreement for its 6-gigawatt small modular reactor project with the Tennessee Valley Authority, a development CEO John Hopkins has indicated could occur by the end of 2026. A signed PPA would lock in long-term revenue for the company, which has faced significant challenges including the exit of its largest shareholder Fluor, a $507.4 million milestone payment to partner ENTRA1 Energy, project delays, rising operating losses, and a class action lawsuit alleging misleading statements about ENTRA1. Despite these setbacks, NuScale’s SMR design was the first to receive full approval from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, giving it a first-mover advantage as AI-driven power demand boosts interest in nuclear energy. The stock has fallen 81% over the past 12 months and trades near its 52-week low at just under $9 per share, presenting a potential opportunity for risk-tolerant investors ahead of next month’s earnings update.

Fluor sells stake in Mexico JV ICA-Fluor Daniel for $175 million

Fluor has divested its equity stake in the ICA-Fluor Daniel joint venture to its existing partner ICA for $175 million. The joint venture, formed in 1993, has completed numerous projects in Mexico's oil and gas, power, mining, and manufacturing markets. Fluor CEO Jim Breuer stated that given current strategic priorities, this is the right time to conclude the long-standing JV, allowing ICA to grow independently while Fluor focuses on other growth areas. The expected gain on sale, combined with year-to-date operating income from the JV, will exceed Fluor's anticipated 2026 earnings contribution from ICA-Fluor Daniel. Fluor will provide additional details and update guidance on its second quarter earnings call on August 7.

NuScale Power Stock Falls Below $10 After 75% One-Year Drop

NuScale Power shares have tumbled 75% over the past year and are now trading below $10, a sharp reversal from the all-time high of $57.42 reached in October 2025. The developer of small modular reactors has yet to sign any binding customer contracts for its Nuclear Power Modules and does not expect first deliveries before 2031. The company also faces investor class action lawsuits over a partnership with ENTRA1 that requires NuScale to pay milestone fees without guaranteed revenue. Despite holding U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission approval for its SMR design, the stock remains under pressure after a 61% drop in the final quarter of 2025 and a sell-off by its largest shareholder, Fluor.

EMCOR vs. Fluor: Which Industrials Stock Is a Better Buy in 2026?

EMCOR Group is favored over Fluor as the better industrials stock for 2026, driven by strong execution and record backlog. EMCOR's fiscal 2025 revenue grew 16.6% to nearly $17.0 billion with net income of approximately $1.3 billion, while Fluor's revenue declined roughly 5.0% to close to $15.5 billion and it posted a net loss of approximately $51.0 million. EMCOR benefits from diversified demand in data centers, healthcare, and semiconductor manufacturing, with no single customer exceeding 10% of revenue, whereas Fluor faces execution challenges including cost overruns and a litigation charge that trimmed its profitability outlook. EMCOR's balance sheet shows a debt-to-equity ratio of roughly 0.2x and free cash flow of nearly $1.2 billion, compared to Fluor's negative free cash flow of roughly -$437.0 million. Despite Fluor's lower forward P/E of 19.5x and P/S ratio of 0.5x, EMCOR's double-digit revenue growth and record backlog make it the preferred choice.

Uranium Energy expands U.S. nuclear fuel strategy with conversion push and critical minerals

Uranium Energy Corp. is positioning itself as a key player in the U.S. nuclear fuel supply chain by pairing its domestic in-situ recovery production with a proposed uranium conversion facility. The company holds what it describes as the largest uranium resource base and most licensed production capacity in the United States, with hub-and-spoke operations in Wyoming and South Texas totaling about 12 million pounds of licensed annual capacity. Its subsidiary United States Uranium Refining & Conversion Corp. has received a U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission docket number for a planned conversion facility, with engineering and design work by Fluor ongoing and a formal license application expected after site selection. UEC also adds critical-mineral exposure through its Alto Paraná project in Paraguay, where a preliminary economic assessment showed a net present value of up to $1.55 billion and a 25% post-tax internal rate of return for the larger-scale development case. Despite the strategic narrative, near-term execution remains a concern, with the Zacks Consensus Estimate projecting a loss of 19 cents per share for fiscal 2026 and a loss of 11 cents for fiscal 2027, and the stock currently carrying a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).

NuScale Power Stock Could Surge in 2030s as First Reactors Come Online

NuScale Power's stock has fallen more than 80% from its record high, but its revenue could skyrocket in the 2030s once its first small modular reactors are deployed. The company is working with Fluor to deploy six 77 MWe reactors in a 462 MWe plant for Romania's RoPower and recently agreed to deploy up to six gigawatts of SMR capacity across seven states for the Tennessee Valley Authority. Analysts expect NuScale's revenue to rise from $31 million in 2025 to $311 million in 2028, though it will remain unprofitable until commercial reactors come online. The stock trades at 11 times its 2028 sales, but its long-term growth potential may make it an attractive speculative buy before that explosive growth occurs.
