Galaxy Digital Launches Crypto-Backed Line of Credit for Individuals

On August 25, Galaxy Digital, a U.S. company, launched the "Crypto Portfolio Line of Credit (PLOC)" on its retail platform GalaxyOne. Eligible U.S. customers can borrow cash against Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and Solana (SOL, including staked) as collateral without selling any of their holdings. The key feature is that instead of taking out separate loans for each asset, the three holdings are combined into a single revolving credit line. There is no origination fee, the interest rate is 8.99% (variable), and the loan-to-value (LTV) ratio is 50%, allowing a borrower to take out about $50,000 against a $100,000 portfolio. Loans are typically funded instantly and can be withdrawn in U.S. dollars or USDC. The collateral is not rehypothecated, and staked SOL continues to earn rewards. The service is available in 40 states, excluding nine states including California. Zac Prince, who leads GalaxyOne, is a co-founder of BlockFi, which went bankrupt in 2022, and the design of operating on a regulated in-house platform rather than external DeFi protocols reflects lessons learned from that experience. This marks the entry of a Nasdaq-listed company with institutional-grade infrastructure into a field already occupied by Ledn, Coinbase, and Nexo. In Japan, Fintertech, a joint venture between Daiwa Securities Group and Credit Saison, offers "digital asset-backed loans." While the terms differ—collateral limited to BTC and ETH, an LTV of 50%, an effective annual rate of 4.0% to 8.0%, and loan amounts ranging from 5 million yen to 500 million yen—the concept of "raising funds without selling" is the same. Currently, the maximum tax on capital gains from selling crypto assets in Japan is 55%, with the 20% separate self-assessment taxation expected to apply from 2028 onward. In the meantime, demand for collateralized loans is likely to continue.

Coinbase Taps Chainlink to Power Tokenized Stocks on Base

Coinbase Global has selected Chainlink as its oracle infrastructure for tokenized stocks on the Base network, a move that could expand its role beyond digital representations of listed shares. By providing continuous pricing data, Chainlink helps make these assets usable across finance applications, connecting traditional securities with onchain markets and opening revenue opportunities for both companies. Coinbase has introduced tokenized versions of stocks such as Apple, NVIDIA, Meta, and Alphabet on Base, each token being a 1:1-backed claim on an underlying share held in regulated custody. Chainlink Data Feeds give developers across the Base ecosystem access to pricing information for these tokenized equities. Chainlink reports that tokenized equities are among the fastest-growing segments of the real-world asset market, with their value reaching a record $2.3 billion by mid-July 2026. The opportunity for Coinbase goes beyond transaction fees; if tokenized stocks gain acceptance as collateral in DeFi, they could attract liquidity, lending activity, and new financial products to Base. Meanwhile, Chainlink would benefit from growing demand for oracle services. In comparison, Robinhood launched tokenized stocks in Europe in 2025 and built Robinhood Chain, an Ethereum-compatible Layer-2 for traditional assets, while Interactive Brokers added nine new tokens through zerohash and three through Paxos, and introduced stablecoin transfers to external wallets. Shares of COIN have lost 20.3% year-to-date, underperforming the industry, and trade at a price-to-earnings ratio of 80.85, significantly above the industry average of 17.2. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for COIN's third-quarter and fourth-quarter 2026 EPS has moved south in the last 30 days, and the stock carries a Zacks Rank #4 (Sell).

39 State Banking Associations Launch BankChain Alliance for 2027

Thirty-nine state banking associations representing thousands of financial institutions are teaming up to build the BankChain Alliance, an industry-owned blockchain network targeting a 2027 launch. The alliance aims to foster stablecoins, payments, and tokenized deposits within the banking system's regulatory sphere, positioning community and regional banks against crypto companies and mega banks. No technology partner has been selected yet, and details on the chain's interoperability remain undecided, though the group has expressed a desire for cross-chain compatibility. The initiative comes amid concerns over deposit flight to larger banks and digital apps, though some analysts argue stablecoins pose no direct threat to regional banks. This move parallels a separate consortium of big banks, OpenUSD, highlighting the broader battle over who will own the rails of future financial infrastructure.

Bitwise Launches Automated Token Portfolio Service

Bitwise Asset Management, a crypto asset management firm, announced on the 25th the launch of its automated portfolio service, "Automated Token Portfolios (ATPs)," which targets tokenized U.S. stocks. The service combines tokenized stocks provided by Coinbase with portfolio management technology from Glider, allowing eligible investors in eligible regions to hold stock portfolios in their crypto wallets while benefiting from automatic rebalancing. The initial offerings include three thematic portfolios: "AI Leaders," "Robotics," and "Mag7X." Mag7X equally weights eight stocks, including Apple, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet, Amazon, Meta, Tesla, and SpaceX. Traditionally, accessing professional management models through funds like ETFs required investors to entrust their assets to the management company. With ATPs, investors retain their tokenized stocks in their self-custody wallets, and Glider automatically rebalances according to Bitwise's model portfolios. Bitwise does not custody or manage investor assets and does not execute trades. The tokenized stocks are U.S. equities that Coinbase began offering on Base on the 24th, and the service is currently available only to eligible investors residing outside the U.S. Chief Investment Officer Matt Hougan described the service as a new mechanism that allows investors to use management models while keeping their assets in their own wallets.

Crypto Stocks Rally While Bitcoin Trades Near $80K

Crypto-linked equities are outrunning the coins in Tuesday morning trade, with CleanSpark surging 7% to $12.72 and BitMine Immersion Technologies climbing 4% to $25.21. The CoinShares Bitcoin Mining and Digital Power ETF is up 4% to $46.55, while the iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF is up 0.6% to $44.92, as mining and treasury names reprice faster than Bitcoin's nearly flat 0.4% move to $79,377.30. CleanSpark's most recent earnings report showed revenue of $138.01 million, missing the $141.81 million consensus, with a GAAP loss of $0.89 per share driven by a $116.25 million loss on the fair value of Bitcoin. Coinbase Jumps 10% as Bitcoin Reclaims $68,000 After White House Crypto Meeting

Coinbase Global shares jumped 10% on August 19 as Bitcoin gained about 6% and traded at its highest level since early June, following a White House meeting where President Donald Trump urged Congress to pass a fair version of the CLARITY Act. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong joined other cryptocurrency executives and financial regulators at the meeting. The stock move combined cryptocurrency price strength with regulatory expectations, yet second-quarter revenue still declined 19% to $1.22 billion and the company reported a $359.5 million net loss. The CLARITY Act, which would establish clearer jurisdiction between the SEC and CFTC and create a federal registration framework for digital-commodity exchanges, has passed the House and advanced through the Senate Banking Committee but faces a procedural floor vote scheduled for September. Coinbase said its company-defined crypto trading-volume market share reached a record 10.3% in the second quarter, subscription and services revenue totaled $555 million, and average USDC held in Coinbase products reached a record $20 billion.

Coinbase CEO Says Stablecoins Let People Escape Inflation Without Leaving Home

Coinbase Global Inc. CEO Brian Armstrong said stablecoins could give people in countries battling high inflation and volatile currencies an easier way to access stronger global currencies without leaving their home countries. Armstrong argued in a post on X that crypto has created new options for people looking to protect their savings from weakening local currencies, pointing to countries where high inflation or currency volatility can rapidly erode household purchasing power. He said stablecoins are changing that dynamic by allowing people to hold digital assets tied to stronger fiat currencies, adding that residents historically had few ways to protect their wealth. Armstrong also said the year-long crypto spot trading bear market could be nearing an end, citing the upcoming CLARITY Act vote, Bitcoin's historical fourth-quarter strength and the length of the current downturn as potential catalysts. He said Bitcoin spot trading accounted for about 12% of Coinbase's revenue, while derivatives, prediction markets, stablecoin payments and real-world asset tokenization continued to grow.

Stablecoin growth could boost demand for short-term Treasury bills

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent's plan to shift U.S. borrowing toward shorter-term debt has a potential ally in the Trump administration's push for crypto legislation, according to The Wall Street Journal. The connection runs through stablecoins, which under the Genius Act can hold only certain assets to maintain their dollar peg, including Treasury securities maturing within 93 days. Bessent has cited projections that the stablecoin market could grow from its current $300 billion to nearly $4 trillion, and has written that such growth could lower government borrowing costs. Last week, the U.S. Treasury announced it would increase buybacks of longer-term bonds, a move that can be funded by issuing more short-term Treasury bills, and Bessent called the approach a Treasury twist. President Donald Trump hosted crypto industry executives at the White House last week and pressed Congress to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, which would establish a broader regulatory framework for crypto markets, but the bill has stalled in the Senate ahead of a September 15 procedural vote. Shares of Circle Internet Group and Coinbase Global both rose more than 20% last week in anticipation of regulatory progress, and a Brookings Institution review found that stablecoins could generate substantial new demand for Treasury bills, particularly from foreign savers in countries with less stable currencies.

SEC Proposes First Permanent Digital-Asset Rule as Crypto Regulation Shifts

The SEC proposed its first permanent digital-asset rule on Aug. 18, exempting token sales of up to $5 million over four years from registration under the Securities Act of 1933, with a similar exemption for sales up to $75 million a year if issuers provide audited financial statements and ongoing reporting. The proposal came a day before President Donald Trump hosted a White House summit with CEOs of Coinbase Global, Ripple, and Robinhood Markets, following the Senate's failure to vote on the Clarity Act before leaving town on Aug. 8. White House crypto advisor Patrick Witt said regulators would use emergency mechanisms if Congress didn't act, and SEC Chairman Paul Atkins called legislation indispensable for durable rules. The next key date is Sept. 15, when a Senate procedural vote on the Clarity Act needs 60 votes, meaning six Democrats must cross party lines.

Moderna soars on cancer vaccine data while Walmart slides

Moderna delivered one of the largest single-session moves for an S&P 500 company, closing 177% higher at $174.38 on Wednesday after reporting positive late-stage data for its personalized cancer vaccine. The stock pulled back over 23% on Thursday before adding more than 10% so far on Friday, leaving it on course for a gain of around 135% over the week. The Phase 3 trial evaluated Moderna's intismeran alongside Merck's Keytruda in advanced skin cancer, and met its primary goal of recurrence-free survival, with a key secondary endpoint on distant metastasis-free survival also met and no new safety signal reported. Crypto-exposed equities rallied hard this week after bitcoin surged on the U.S. Treasury's decision to at least double the size of its long-dated bond buyback operations, alongside supportive comments on the sector from President Donald Trump. The Treasury raised the maximum per-operation size from $2 billion to at least $4 billion for the 10-to-20-year and 20-to-30-year sectors, effective Sept. 9 through Nov. 4. Bitcoin is currently above $77,000, having hit a high of $79,461 earlier in Friday's session. As a result, Strategy has risen 25.9% over the week, with Marathon Digital up 22.5%, Coinbase 23.1% higher, Circle up 16.3%, Galaxy Digital 12.3% higher and Robinhood up 9.7%. The same Treasury announcement also lifted metals producers, with the dollar weakening and precious metal prices moving higher. Agnico Eagle leads the group so far on Friday with an 18.4% gain over the week, followed by Barrick at 15%, Freeport-McMoRan up 14% and Newmont 13.3% higher. The dollar has declined, with spot gold gaining more than 2% on Friday and over 6% in the past week. Estée Lauder jumped more than 16% on Wednesday and is set to finish the week up around 15.9% after fourth-quarter results came in ahead of expectations. Sales rose 6%, beating consensus of 4%, while adjusted earnings of $0.39 per share topped the $0.32 expected. Management pointed to share gains in mainland China and growth across all product categories except hair care, alongside continued progress on cost-cutting through its One ELC initiative and Profit Recovery and Growth Plan. Canaccord analyst Susan Anderson raised her price target for the stock to $90 from $85, maintaining a Hold rating following the release. Walmart is the week's notable loser, sinking 9.2% on Thursday and down a further 0.9% so far on Friday after second-quarter results that beat on the headline numbers but disappointed on the metric that mattered most. Comparable sales at Walmart-only U.S. stores excluding gas grew 2.6%, well short of the 3.67% consensus and the slowest U.S. sales growth in six years. Mizuho analyst David Bellinger described the outcome as a worst-case scenario, calling it a very messy print and one of the biggest misses in years from the retailer.

Senate Sets Sept. 15 Cloture Vote on Clarity Act

The U.S. Senate will hold a cloture vote on the Clarity Act on Sept. 15, the day after senators return from August recess, with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong predicting the crypto legislation will pass. The cloture vote would end debate and filibuster, requiring 60 votes to proceed, the same threshold needed for final passage, and would be a strong indicator of the bill's prospects. Armstrong told CNBC that Senate Majority Leader John Thune would not have scheduled the vote unless he believed it would pass, and he expects more than 60 votes, though Kalshi bettors put the odds at just 22%. The Clarity Act would give the Commodity Futures Trading Commission exclusive jurisdiction over spot markets of digital commodities and includes provisions on stablecoin rewards, but Democrats have sought additional ethics provisions and banking groups have raised concerns, leaving the outcome uncertain.

Ross Stores jumped over 8% after posting better-than-expected second-quarter results and issuing third-quarter earnings guidance above estimates. Bitcoin surges past $77,000 for first time since May

Bitcoin surged past $77,000 for the first time since May, supported by falling bond yields and hopes for the cryptocurrency Clarity Act. As of 4:30 p.m. Thailand time, Bitcoin was up more than 7% at $77,700, but still 43% below its October 2025 peak. Ether rose nearly 4.4% to $2,390. The market got an additional boost from the White House holding an emergency meeting with top executives from Coinbase, Kraken, Robinhood, Ripple, and ChainLink ahead of the first meeting of the CFTC's innovation advisory committee on Thursday. President Donald Trump called on Congress to fast-track a fair version of the Clarity Act before the end of this year, saying the bill would help the United States maintain its leadership over China and pave the way for a new wave of innovation. Crypto stocks rally as Bitcoin extends gains on regulation push

Crypto-linked stocks rallied Friday as Bitcoin extended its climb to levels not seen since late May, after President Trump called on lawmakers to pass clear regulatory rules for digital assets. In U.S. premarket trading, Strategy was up 10.2%, Coinbase rose 6.8%, and Circle Internet Group added 6.4%, while MARA Holdings climbed 5.4%, Galaxy Digital rose 5%, Robinhood Markets gained 4.7%, Hut 8 advanced 2.4%, and Riot Platforms rose 3.7%. Bitcoin jumped 8.9% to $78,135.60, briefly touching an intraday high of $79,600.60, breaking out of the roughly $60,000-to-$70,000 range that held for most of 2026. The rally was also supported by a broader lift in risk appetite after the U.S. Treasury Department said it would double its bond buybacks in an effort to contain rising yields, following a sharp bond selloff that drove the 30-year yield to its highest level since 2007. The advance was set in motion earlier this week when Trump, speaking at a White House summit, urged Congress to advance the Clarity Act, closely watched legislation aimed at establishing a regulatory framework for the U.S. crypto industry, though it remains unclear when, or if, the bill will pass.

Bitcoin surges above $75k as Trump spurs U.S. regulatory hopes

Bitcoin surged above $75,000 on Friday, extending a rebound to levels last seen in late May after U.S. President Donald Trump called on policymakers to pass clear regulation for cryptocurrencies. The world's biggest crypto rose 8.1% to $75,113.6 by 02:24 ET, briefly touching an intraday high of $75,591.6, and was set to rise nearly 19% this week, its best weekly performance since February 2024. Gains came chiefly after Trump, during a White House summit earlier this week, urged Congress to pass the Clarity Act, a closely watched bill that aims to establish a regulatory framework for the U.S. crypto industry, though it remained unclear when the act would actually come to passage. Crypto stocks also advanced, with Strategy Inc surging 7.8% on Thursday, Coinbase Global Inc adding 7.9%, and Japanese hotelier turned Bitcoin treasury Metaplanet Inc surging over 20% in the Asian session. Bitcoin Leaps Past $75,000 as Crypto Rally Continues in Asia

Binance users see first outflows in a week when QQQ fell, selling memory stocks and rotating into crypto-related names

According to a weekly flow analysis of equity-linked products published by Binance Research on the 20th, the platform recorded net outflows of 42 million dollars during the period from August 13 to 19, marking a third consecutive week of outflows. The Nasdaq 100 tracking ETF QQQ fell 1.1 percent over the period, but over the past 11 weeks, weeks in which QQQ declined had seen average inflows of about 165 million dollars. This time, however, funds flowed out in a week when QQQ fell for the first time, deviating from the previous trend. The technology sector led the outflows, with net outflows of 62.3 million dollars, more than triple the previous week's 18.7 million dollars and the largest in the past 12 weeks. Selling was particularly notable in memory-related names, with Micron, SanDisk, and memory-related ETFs ranking among the top by total trading value. Meanwhile, buying was concentrated mainly in crypto-related stocks that had been declining, with Strategy seeing the largest single-stock inflow at 7.9 million dollars, Coinbase receiving 2 million dollars, and the iShares Bitcoin ETF taking in 2.4 million dollars.

Coinbase Stock Jumps on Digital Asset Market Clarity Act Optimism

Coinbase shares jumped 7.4% in morning trading as investors bid crypto names on fresh optimism around the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, with bitcoin also higher at about $71,936, up roughly 2% over 24 hours. Senate Banking Chair Tim Scott, speaking at SALT in Jackson Hole, told CoinDesk the bill has a "really good shot" in September and that "the only question is how do we get it to the finish line, and when." White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt called talks an "A-B" setup where a grand bargain is possible, with the Senate's test a Sept. 15 procedural cloture vote on whether to even debate the bill. For Coinbase, a durable market-structure law would lock in which tokens are SEC vs. CFTC products and how exchanges, custody, and staking are licensed, making it harder for a future administration to unwind. Binance launches developer platform for AI agent integration

Binance on August 20 launched Binance Agent OS, a developer platform that connects AI agents to its trading infrastructure and market data. The platform includes an MCP server and supports Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, ChatGPT, and custom-built agents. Users can assign a sub-account to each agent, allowing it to view account information and trade within permissions and funding limits set by the user. Permissions can be changed or revoked at any time, and the platform includes an emergency stop feature that can block all agents at once. Currently available via MCP are spot, futures, and convert trading, market data such as order books, and balance and position queries. Wallet operations and machine-to-machine payments via x402 will be integrated into MCP later through separate APIs. Binance stressed that the platform is not an autonomous trading system and said responsibility for decisions and approvals rests with the user. Crypto exchanges are moving quickly to support AI agents. Coinbase launched Coinbase for Agents on June 11, and Kraken announced an AI investment assistant on July 10 that suggests trades based on goals and risk tolerance, while still requiring user approval for execution. Binance noted that Gartner predicts 33% of enterprise software will include agentic AI by 2028. In Japan, the Financial Services Agency raised customer-facing deployment of agentic AI as a discussion point in its AI discussion paper version 1.1 released in March, and whether such services constitute investment advice and how responsibility is allocated in the event of erroneous orders are likely to be key issues going forward.

The proposal would require liquid reserves, at least one-to-one backing, direct redemption rights, and clear regulatory compliance. This would allow corporate treasurers to use stablecoins without making their reported cash position look smaller, enabling them to count the full value of stablecoin holdings as cash on the balance sheet. The change could facilitate cross-border payments and other uses, and is seen as a significant step in institutional crypto adoption.

Trump says CFTC is moving to bring Hyperliquid into the US legally

President Donald Trump said Michael Selig, chairman of the CFTC, is working to bring perpetuals trading platforms such as Hyperliquid into the United States in a fully lawful and compliant manner. Speaking at a joint press conference with technology leaders and heads of federal agencies on Wednesday, Trump said Selig is working to bring perpetual futures markets into the country. The CFTC previously approved KalshiEX and Coinbase to list bitcoin perpetuals in the US for the first time. JPMorgan analysts said blockchain-based perpetual platforms such as Hyperliquid have surged in popularity because non-crypto traders are turning to 24-hour markets to access certain assets such as oil outside traditional market hours. Traditional exchanges such as CME and ICE are concerned that such platforms could be used to manipulate prices and distort markets, and want them to register with the CFTC, according to a Bloomberg report. After the press conference, Hyperliquid's HYPE token rose 17% over the past 24 hours, according to price data from The Block, while the 21Shares Hyperliquid ETF, Bitwise Hyperliquid ETF and Grayscale Hyperliquid Staking ETF rose nearly 20% in Wednesday's session. Hyperliquid Strategies, listed on Nasdaq, rose 30.4% on the same day. Trump also called on members of Congress to pass the Clarity Act, a broad cryptocurrency bill that would provide comprehensive federal oversight of the industry for the first time, describing it as a very structured and powerful law that would help the United States stay ahead of China and all other countries.

Bitcoin touches $70,000 on Trump push for crypto legislation

Bitcoin briefly touched $70,000 on Coinbase on Wednesday, the first time since June 2, before quickly pulling back below that level, though it remained up more than 7% over the past 24 hours. The advance was supported by President Donald Trump's push for Congress to pass the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, with Coinbase, Gemini, Ripple, and Chainlink Labs represented at a White House event. Meanwhile, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent doubled the size of the Treasury's bond buyback operations, which traders view as a liquidity backstop for the more than $30 trillion government bond market and a potential support for risk assets. Tim Scott, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, said at the SALT conference that the Clarity Act could advance in September, with a procedural vote set for September 15. Technical analyst Aksel Kibar noted that an inverse head-and-shoulders pattern with a neckline near $66,600, if confirmed by a breakout, would point to a target of $76,000. However, the Fed minutes continued to signal upside inflation risks and the possibility of rate hikes, which could weigh on Bitcoin's breakout.

Bitcoin Surge Lifts US Crypto-Related Stocks Across the Board

US crypto-related stocks surged across the board on the 19th. Bitcoin triggered a short squeeze that briefly pushed it toward the 70,000 dollar level, forcing bearish investors who had sold in anticipation of declines to buy back positions. Strategy, a major Bitcoin holder, rose 11.95 percent from the previous day to 103.58 dollars. Coinbase, a major cryptocurrency exchange, gained 9.05 percent to 159.47 dollars. Circle, which issues stablecoins, climbed 9.44 percent to 78.50 dollars. Bitmine, which holds Ethereum, advanced 9.68 percent to 20.05 dollars. Reports said more than 1 billion dollars worth of bearish positions were forcibly liquidated within one hour on the 19th. The US Treasury's plan to double the scale of long-term bond buybacks starting in September also supported buying of risk assets, and the total market capitalisation of the cryptocurrency market expanded by more than 5 percent that day. In Tokyo trading the following day, the 20th, the Nikkei Stock Average opened higher, with gains from the previous close briefly exceeding 800 yen.

Kalshi seeks to trade perpetuals tied to US stock index and copper

Kalshi has filed documents with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, or CFTC, to launch perpetual futures contracts tied to a stock index and copper, according to a Tuesday filing. Kalshi intends to offer the US500 Contract, which references the MerQube US Large Cap Index measuring the performance of the 500 largest companies listed in the United States, and has also filed to offer the COPPERPERP Contract, a perpetual futures contract on the spot price of copper quoted in US dollars per pound, based on the Pyth Network XCU-USD price. The filing comes after the CFTC cleared Kalshi to list perpetual contracts tied to the price of Bitcoin in late May, opening the door for such assets to trade in the United States for the first time. However, in June, CME Group sued the CFTC in court, alleging the agency violated the Commodity Exchange Act when it approved the first perpetual futures contracts for Kalshi and Coinbase, with CME arguing that such products would compete directly with its own offerings and harm derivatives exchanges.

Coinbase Expands Into Prediction Markets to Diversify Revenue

Coinbase Global is expanding into prediction markets as a new growth pillar, aiming to reduce its dependence on crypto trading volumes and accelerate its transition into an everything exchange. The company entered the space in November 2025 through a partnership with Kalshi, a regulated U.S. exchange for trading on real-world events, and later acquired The Clearing Company to bring prediction-market expertise in-house. Prediction-market volumes have surged amid rising retail participation and demand for real-time information, and event contracts can generate trading activity regardless of cryptocurrency-market direction. Coinbase shares have lost 34.9% year to date, and the stock trades at a price-to-earnings ratio of 67.03 versus an industry average of 16.69. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Coinbase's third-quarter and fourth-quarter 2026 earnings per share moved lower over the last 30 days, and the stock currently carries a Zacks Rank of 5, or Strong Sell.

SEC Reportedly Planning Framework for Tokenized Stocks

The Securities and Exchange Commission is preparing to launch a framework for trading blockchain versions of popular Wall Street-listed stocks, according to a report published on Tuesday. The agency is expected to release its innovation exemption for trading tokenized stocks as early as Friday, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the matter. Officials are still working on the proposal, and details may change before its release. SEC Chair Paul Atkins first hinted at the innovation exemption in April, aiming to give qualified firms a regulatory sandbox to issue and trade tokenized securities on-chain under lighter-touch compliance conditions while still operating under SEC oversight. Tokenized equities are currently unavailable for trading in the U.S., though several firms are actively experimenting with the concept, including Robinhood Markets Inc. and Coinbase Global Inc.
