Westlake returns to profitability in Q2 2026 with $260 million net income

Westlake Corporation returned to profitability in the second quarter of 2026, reporting net sales of $3.3 billion, net income of $260 million, and EBITDA of $679 million, compared with a net loss of $12 million in the prior-year quarter. The improvement was driven by higher average selling prices in its Performance and Essential Materials segment, lower feedstock costs, and cost savings from its profitability-improvement plan, which contributed about $150 million to year-over-year EBITDA growth in the quarter and keeps the company on track for its $600 million full-year 2026 target. Housing and Infrastructure Products sales rose 8% to $1.3 billion, but its EBITDA margin declined to 22% due to lower prices and higher transportation and raw-material costs, leading Westlake to lower its full-year HIP outlook toward the low end of its prior guidance range amid weaker residential construction expectations. The company maintained its $900 million capital expenditure plan for 2026 and completed the acquisition of a PVC and VCM plant in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, which is expected to contribute more meaningfully to earnings next year.

Westlake Corp Completes Acquisition of PVC and VCM Production Site in Germany

Westlake Corp has completed the acquisition of a polyvinyl chloride and vinyl chloride monomer production site in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, through its German subsidiary Westlake Vinnolit GmbH & Co. KG. The site has the potential to produce 380,000 metric tons of PVC per year, expanding Westlake's global chlorovinyl manufacturing footprint. Its competitive edge stems from advantageous logistical infrastructure, including a deep-water dock that enables efficient raw material supply, and it is expected to strengthen the company's chlorovinyl production facilities in Europe and North America. The acquisition strengthens Westlake's Performance & Essential Materials business. Separately, Mizuho reiterated a Neutral rating on Westlake stock on July 1 but lowered its price target to $88 from $110.

Antipodes Global Fund Exited Westlake Corporation Due to Weak Demand and Restructuring Concerns

Antipodes Global Strategy exited its position in Westlake Corporation during the first quarter of 2026, citing sustained pressure on the company's Performance and Essential Materials segment from weak global industrial demand, reduced operating rates, and significant unplanned maintenance costs. The firm noted that Westlake announced the permanent closure of four facilities in December 2025, impacting approximately 295 positions, with expected annual free cash flow savings of around $175 million from 2026 and a projected $600 million EBITDA improvement. However, Antipodes highlighted elevated execution risk and unsupportive broader chemical industry conditions. Westlake shares closed at $75.87 on June 24, 2026, with a one-month return of negative 13% and a market capitalization of $9.72 billion.
