The Local Media segment engages in the operation of broadcast television stations and related digital activities; production of over-the-air news, information, sports, and entertainment content through broadcast, digital, mobile, social, and over-the-top platforms; and running of network programming, local sporting events, syndicated programming and original programming; and provision of core and political advertising services. Its Scripps Networks segment operates national news outlets Scripps News and Court TV, as well as entertainment brands under the ION, Bounce, Grit, ION Mystery, ION Plus, and Laff names through over-the-air broadcast, cable/satellite, connected TV, and/or digital distribution. The company also operates the Scripps National Spelling Bee, an educational program. It serves its audiences and businesses through cable and satellite service providers. The E.W. Scripps Company was founded in 1878 and is headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Scripps posts $1.2 billion loss on $1.1 billion impairment charge

The E.W. Scripps Company reported a second-quarter 2026 net loss of $1.2 billion, driven by a $1.1 billion non-cash goodwill and intangible asset impairment in its Scripps Networks business. Revenue fell 9.2% year over year to $490 million, with Local Media revenue down 5.4% to $317 million and Scripps Networks revenue down 16% to $172 million. Scripps reaches third major retransmission deal of 2026 with DIRECTV renewal

The E.W. Scripps Company has reached a new retransmission consent agreement with DIRECTV, completing its three largest cable and satellite distribution renewals of 2026. These three contracts represent the majority of Scripps’ pay-TV subscriber households scheduled for renewal this year. After a five-week blackout period, Scripps reached the new agreement with DIRECTV on July 10, with service restored that day to DIRECTV subscribers in over 40 markets where Scripps does business.
