Suburban Propane Partners, L.P., through its subsidiaries, engages in the retail marketing and distribution of propane, renewable propane, renewable natural gas, fuel oil, and refined fuels in the United States. It operates through four segments: Propane, Fuel Oil and Refined Fuels, Natural Gas and Electricity, and All Other. The Propane segment is involved in the retail distribution of propane for space heating, water heating, cooking, and clothes drying for use as a motor fuel in internal combustion engines to power over-the-road vehicles, forklifts, and stationary engines, as well as to fire furnaces as a cutting gas to the industrial customers; and for tobacco curing, crop drying, poultry brooding, and weed control in the agricultural markets. It also engages in the wholesale distribution of propane to industrial end users. Its Fuel Oil and Refined Fuels segment engages in the retail distribution of fuel oil, diesel, kerosene, and gasoline to residential and commercial customers for use in primarily as a source of heat in homes and buildings. The Natural Gas and Electricity segment markets natural gas and electricity to residential and commercial customers in the deregulated energy markets. Its All Other segment sells, installs, and services a range of home comfort equipment, including whole-house heating products, air cleaners, humidifiers, and space heaters. The company serves residential, commercial, industrial, and agricultural customers. Suburban Propane Partners, L.P. was founded in 1945 and is based in Whippany, New Jersey.

Suburban Propane's Counter-Seasonal Growth Offsets Warm Weather

The decline was relatively contained because growth in counter-seasonal customers helped offset weaker heating demand, making customer-mix diversification an increasingly important lever in reducing exposure to unpredictable seasonal conditions. The company has built a dedicated sales and business-development team focused on propane end markets that are less sensitive to weather, with recent growth evident across agricultural, industrial and national-account customers. Warmer conditions still pushed total propane volumes lower, showing weather remains a meaningful driver of demand, and the key issue now is whether counter-seasonal growth can become large enough to consistently absorb weather-related weakness rather than merely soften it. Suburban Propane Partners, L.P. participated in a first-of-its-kind clean energy activation during NASCAR race weekend in San Diego, supplying renewable propane to power electric vehicle charging. The project, a collaboration with ABB, Kempower, and NASCAR, used renewable propane-fueled generators to charge battery storage systems that powered DC fast chargers, demonstrating a lower-carbon solution for on-demand mobile EV charging where grid access is limited or temporary. The installation took place at Naval Base Coronado from June 19 to 21, 2026, and highlighted how portable energy systems can support EV charging in off-grid, high-demand environments. Suburban Propane's Vice President of Marketing and Brand Strategy, Nandini Sankara, said the collaboration showed how renewable propane can complement emerging technologies by providing reliable energy when and where it is needed. Renewable propane is produced from feedstocks such as plant oils and animal fats, offering significantly lower lifecycle carbon intensity while being usable in existing propane equipment.
