Apple Discusses Multiyear Publisher Deals for AI-Upgraded Siri

Apple is discussing new, multiyear deals with publishers to license their content for an AI-upgraded Siri expected to launch later this year, according to a Wall Street Journal report on August 12, 2026. The company has proposed a variable, pay-as-you-go compensation structure, paying publishers specifically when their content gets used, with a possible nine-figure budget discussed for the payments. This differs from the guaranteed flat fees typical of big AI licensing deals. Apple already has a track record with publishers, including its Apple News+ service since 2019 and earlier deals that included AI training rights, and News Corp, owner of the Wall Street Journal, already has a commercial agreement to supply news through Apple's services. However, Apple's last major attempt at AI-generated news in late 2024 published false headlines and had to be disabled almost immediately, and some Apple News+ publisher partners have already pulled out of that earlier program.

News Corp flagged as risky with flat revenue and weak cash flow

News Corp shares have gained just 0.9% over the past six months, trailing the S&P 500's 7.7% rise, and analysts at StockStory see three reasons for caution. The company's trailing 12-month revenue of $8.8 billion is nearly unchanged from five years ago, signaling stagnant demand. Its free cash flow margin averaged only 7.1% over the last two years, limiting reinvestment and shareholder returns. Return on invested capital has also remained flat, indicating no improvement in profitable growth. At $26.72 per share and a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 22.1, the stock is considered fairly valued but with limited upside, and the firm suggests there are better opportunities elsewhere.

News Corp Board Approves $1 Billion Buyback and Auditor Switch to Deloitte

News Corporation's board has approved a new $1.00 billion share repurchase authorization and plans to rotate its independent auditor from Ernst & Young LLP to Deloitte & Touche LLP for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2028. The buyback covers Class A and Class B shares and comes as the company's share price has lagged the broader US market over the past year. The auditor change and expanded repurchase program sharpen the focus on capital discipline amid cyclical pressures in real estate and advertising. Analyst projections see revenue reaching $9.7 billion and earnings hitting $745.9 million by 2029, implying 4.1% annual revenue growth and a $306.9 million increase from current earnings of $439.0 million. One fair value estimate places the stock at $33.92, representing a 31% upside to its current price.
