National Bank Holdings Seen as 10.2% Undervalued After Earnings and Buybacks

National Bank Holdings is back in focus after its latest quarterly earnings and a completed share repurchase tranche, with the most followed narrative pegging fair value at $48.25 per share, 10.2% above the latest close of $43.33. Regional bank stocks rise as soft inflation data eases rate hike fears

Shares of several regional banks climbed after softer-than-expected inflation data cooled expectations for further Federal Reserve interest rate hikes. A June CPI of 3.5% and lower-than-expected producer prices bolstered investor confidence that inflationary pressures may be easing, reducing the likelihood of aggressive monetary tightening. Strong second-quarter earnings from major financial institutions also supported the sector, showing stabilized net interest income and contained credit-loss provisions. The State Street S&P Regional Banking ETF, which tracks the broader regional banking sector, has been trading near its 2026 highs. Among individual movers, Prosperity Bancshares rose 2.7%, Peoples Bancorp gained 3.3%, National Bank Holdings advanced 3.1%, Live Oak Bancshares jumped 3.3%, and Glacier Bancorp added 2.8%.

National Bank Holdings Faces Revenue and EPS Stagnation, Analyst Says Avoid

National Bank Holdings has underperformed on key financial metrics, prompting analysts to recommend avoiding the stock. The company's revenue grew at a sluggish 5.2% compounded annual rate over the past five years, while earnings per share remained flat over the same period, indicating declining profitability. Tangible book value per share expanded at a substandard 5.7% annual clip over the last two years. Despite a 16.2% stock price increase to $44.39 over the past six months, the valuation at 1.1 times forward price-to-book is considered fair but not compelling. Analysts suggest there are more attractive opportunities elsewhere, including a top digital advertising pick.
