Alpha Tau treats first immunocompromised patient in ADMIRE study for recurrent cSCC

Alpha Tau Medical announced the successful treatment of the first patient in its ADMIRE study, a clinical trial evaluating Alpha DaRT for immunocompromised patients with recurrent cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma. The procedure was performed at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center in Gilbert, Arizona, by Dr. Michael Samuels and Dr. Thomas Shellenberger. Immunocompromised patients, including organ transplant recipients who face a 65- to 100-fold higher incidence of cSCC, often have limited treatment options because checkpoint inhibitor immunotherapy can risk organ rejection and repeated surgeries or radiation become less feasible. The ADMIRE study, which plans to enroll up to 28 patients at up to 8 U.S. sites, is designed to assess whether the localized alpha-radiation therapy can offer a meaningful alternative for this historically excluded population. Alpha Tau's CEO Uzi Sofer noted that the trial originated from physician requests after the company's ReSTART pivotal trial for recurrent cSCC, which recently completed enrollment and also involved the Banner MD Anderson team.
