Bellway voluntary turnover falls 19% after mobile-first comms launch

Bellway Homes has seen voluntary turnover drop by more than 19% and employee satisfaction rise above 90% in the 12 months following the launch of a mobile-first employee communications platform built on Staffbase. The platform, named Pathway, now reaches 94% of Bellway's roughly 3,000-strong workforce, two-thirds of whom work on construction sites without a desk or corporate email. During a market-moving acquisition rumour, over 1,500 employees read the company's first statement the same evening it was issued, outside working hours, ahead of the media. The platform replaced a legacy SharePoint system holding more than seven million documents and conflicting versions of core policies that employees had stopped trusting. Bellway is already piloting Staffbase's AI podcast tool and testing its AI chatbot, Navigator, to further enhance the digital workplace.

Housebuilders face £4bn class action over price collusion claims

Major UK housebuilders are facing a class action lawsuit potentially worth more than £4 billion, filed on behalf of over 700,000 buyers of new-build homes between October 2015 and June 2026. The claim accuses Barratt Redrow, Taylor Wimpey, Bellway, Berkeley Group, Persimmon, Vistry Group, and Countryside Partnerships of sharing sensitive information on prices, buyer incentives, and sales activity, which allegedly weakened competition and drove up new-build home prices. Compensation is estimated at between £2.2 billion and £4.5 billion, equivalent to £3,100 to £6,200 per affected homeowner. The lawsuit, managed by consumer rights advocate Mark McLaren, requires approval from the Competition Appeal Tribunal before it can proceed. It follows a Competition and Markets Authority investigation that resulted in a record £100 million settlement and commitments to stop sharing sensitive pricing information.
