Avient Launches Non-PFAS Barrier Technology for HDPE Packaging

Avient Corporation has launched Cesa Solvent Barrier Technology, a drop-in non-PFAS additive for high-density polyethylene bottles that helps manufacturers meet fluorochemical regulations without modifying existing extrusion blow molding lines. The monolayer HDPE packaging provides enhanced resistance to aggressive solvents, eliminating the need for fluorinated barrier treatments. Internal lab testing showed a 2- to 10-times reduction in weight loss compared with unmodified monolayer HDPE when exposed to mineral spirits and toluene. The solid pellet-blend additive is directly compatible with standard HDPE processing and is regrind-compatible, potentially qualifying for APR Recognition below certain concentrations. The technology targets packaging for personal care products, household cleaners, home and garden chemicals, and automotive care fluids.
