Adecco Says AI Won't Cause a Major Employment Crisis

Adecco Group, the world's leading staffing firm, says artificial intelligence will not lead to massive job losses, viewing AI as more likely to change the nature of work and responsibilities rather than eliminate jobs entirely. Adecco's research found that while many companies cite AI as a factor in workforce reductions, the overall labor market shows no signs of collapse. Data from the OECD, covering 38 member countries, shows that three and a half years after the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT, employment rates remain at record highs while unemployment is near historic lows. Denis Machuel, CEO of Adecco, said AI is driving major changes in the world of work but has not reached the point of an employment disaster, with the main impact being a shift in roles and workloads rather than job elimination. However, Adecco acknowledges that entry-level positions, particularly certain office jobs, are facing increased pressure as AI can handle repetitive tasks or data processing. But companies cannot eliminate all entry-level roles because it would harm long-term talent pipelines, requiring them to redesign jobs so that AI augments employee capabilities. The Adecco CEO noted that businesses need to invest in upskilling and reskilling, and foster collaboration between companies, governments, and educational institutions to prepare the workforce for the AI era.

CTO confidence in scaling AI drops to 48% in 2026 despite rising investment, Akkodis study finds

A new study by digital engineering consultancy Akkodis, part of the Adecco Group, reveals that CTO confidence in scaling AI has fallen from 82% in 2024 to 48% in 2026, even as AI adoption accelerates and investment continues to grow. The third edition of the "What CTOs Think" report, based on input from 500 Chief Technology Officers as part of the Adecco Group's global "Business Leaders 2026" survey of 2,000 C-level executives, identifies agentic AI as the most influential enterprise technology trend for 2026, cited by 40% of CTOs as a key driver of success. For the first time, innovation rather than efficiency is named the primary driver of digital investment, signaling a shift from cost-driven optimization to growth and new business models. The study highlights that the main barriers to scaling AI are no longer technological but organizational, with only 44% of CTOs believing leadership teams have sufficient AI expertise, 46% reporting established responsible AI frameworks, and 36% satisfied with workforce trust in AI. While 50% of CTOs report changing skill requirements and 49% see shifts in daily workflows, only 21% say AI has led to workforce reductions, underscoring the need to redesign work for human-AI collaboration.
