AWS launches $1 billion AI engineering unit to speed enterprise AI adoption

Amazon Web Services has launched a new Forward Deployed Engineering team backed by a $1 billion investment to help customers quickly build and deploy AI systems. The unit will place thousands of AWS engineers directly inside client organizations to develop and implement AI agents and tailored solutions, aiming to deliver functional systems within weeks. AWS Vice President Francessca Vasquez said the initial group will work in small teams alongside clients' business, engineering, and security staff, with the investment coming entirely from Amazon's own resources. Organizations including the Allen Institute, the National Basketball Association, Ricoh, and the National Football League are already collaborating with the FDE teams, and AWS expects highly regulated industries and those with complex datasets to be among the next adopters.
