Taiwan raids 64 locations, investigates 17 Chinese companies over illegal poaching of high-tech talent

Taiwan launched an operation raiding 64 locations and questioning 114 individuals in an investigation into 17 Chinese companies suspected of illegally recruiting chip engineers and advanced technology personnel. Between July 13 and August 4, more than 330 officers conducted searches nationwide after discovering that several Chinese companies may have set up offices in Taiwan without authorization and used methods to circumvent the law to poach semiconductor and high-tech talent. The companies identified include those listed on Chinese stock exchanges, such as ACM Research Shanghai, a semiconductor equipment maker; Goke Microelectronics, an integrated circuit design firm; Zhuhai CosMX Battery, a battery manufacturer; and Actions Technology, a chip design company. Taiwanese authorities stated that many Chinese companies disguised themselves as Taiwanese or foreign firms to conceal their identities and sent employees to illegally recruit personnel, which could undermine the country's competitive advantage. A similar operation was conducted earlier in March.
