Shanghai builds 100,000-card hyperscale AI computing cluster, fueling AI supply chain rally
Shanghai has released its 15th Five-Year Plan for the software and IT services industry, outlining the deployment of 100,000-card hyperscale AI computing clusters in areas such as Songjiang, Lingang, and Qingpu. The news boosted activity in the semiconductor sector. Central China Securities analysis points out that global semiconductor sales surged 123.6 percent year-on-year in June 2026, and WSTS forecasts full-year sales will reach 1.511 trillion US dollars, up nearly 90 percent year-on-year. AI computing infrastructure remains highly buoyant, with combined second-quarter capital expenditure by the four major North American cloud providers reaching 163.9 billion US dollars, a sharp 86 percent increase year-on-year. As of 9:50 a.m. on August 12, 2026, the Shanghai STAR 100 Index rose strongly by 1.71 percent, with constituent Focuslight Technologies up 19.16 percent, Kingsemi up 8.02 percent, and Fortrend Precision up 7.23 percent. The STAR 100 ETF Peng Hua, which closely tracks the index, gained 1.90 percent to trade at 1.82 yuan.
