Europe widens lead over US in new drug dose outsourcing

The dose outsourcing gap between European and US facilities for newly approved biosimilar and innovator drugs reached its widest point in 2025, with Europe securing 50% of contracts compared to a static 18% for the US, and the first half of 2026 is continuing that trend. Irish facilities accounted for 13% of the region's dose manufacturing contracts in 2025, up from approximately 6% in 2024, supported by an increase in its R&D Corporation tax Credit to 35% in January 2026. Germany contributed just over a fifth of European dose outsourcing for new drugs in 2025 and offers an R&D tax credit of 25–35%, while the US Alternative Simplified Credit ranges from 6% to 14%. Celltrion Inc. outsourced nine dose manufacturing contracts to European facilities in 2025, up from seven in 2024, reflecting a strategic preference for specialised European manufacturing partners.
