The company was formerly known as Korea Explosives Corp. and changed its name to Hanwha Corporation in March 1993. Hanwha Corporation was founded in 1952 and is headquartered in Seoul, South Korea.

During a visit to a Philadelphia shipyard acquired by South Korea's Hanwha Group, Assistant Treasury Secretary Pilkerton and Small Business Administration Administrator Loeffler noted that while import tariffs and deregulation are driving foreign investment, reliable access to parts is essential. Pilkerton said a pilot strategic vendor program aimed at strengthening domestic supply chains has been launched, and Loeffler stated that the Small Business Administration provided about 3 billion dollars to manufacturers in 2025. Hanwha Philly Shipyard CEO Kim announced plans to invest 5 billion dollars over the next few years and increase employment from the current roughly 2,000 to 10,000.

Chrysalis Renewables Acquires Two US Solar Projects in First Deal Under Hanwha Partnership

Chrysalis Renewables, a platform backed by infrastructure manager Morrison, has acquired the Atlas V and Atlas VI solar projects in Arizona, marking the first transaction under its strategic partnership with Hanwha Renewables. The two projects have a combined capacity of approximately 357MWdc and are in the final stages of commissioning, forming the first two stages of the multi-phase Atlas Energy Park development in La Paz, Arizona. The acquisition increases Chrysalis' generation capacity to about 700MW and expands its regional footprint. The projects are contracted under 15-year power purchase agreements with Southern California Edison and feature domestically produced solar modules supplied by Hanwha Group subsidiary Qcells. Under the partnership, Chrysalis will initially target more than 3.5GW of solar and battery energy storage system deployment in North America, with potential future expansion to Japan, Australia, and Italy.
