Ammonium Sulphate Subject to Export Commodity Inspection from Today; Nearly 90% of Output Relies on Exports

The General Administration of Customs has issued an announcement that, starting from 16 July, export ammonium sulphate will be subject to export commodity inspection. Ammonium sulphate is one of the few fertiliser export products in China not yet included in the statutory inspection catalogue. Over the past five years, export volumes have grown from 10.65 million tonnes to 21.36 million tonnes, with the export dependency ratio reaching 89.82% in 2025. Following the addition of supervision condition B, customs will carry out mandatory controls on indicators such as nitrogen content, free acid, and chloride ions. Exports of non-national-standard cargo may face difficulties, while compliant cargo such as caprolactam-grade material will clear customs smoothly. Industry participants believe the policy impact will be limited in the short term, and the market will ultimately depend on supply and demand fundamentals. Recently, influenced by the situation in the Middle East, international urea price fluctuations have transmitted to the ammonium sulphate market. On 3 July, the price of coking-grade ammonium sulphate fell to 938 yuan per tonne, a drop of 37.55% from the high point in early April. Prices are expected to have limited room for a modest increase in July and August, but the upside will be constrained.
