Optical Fiber Stocks Plunge in Afternoon Trading; Changyingtong Hits 20% Daily Limit Down

On the afternoon of the 13th, losses in optical fiber stocks widened. Changyingtong hit the 20 percent daily limit down, while Hengtong Optic-Electric and SDG Information also fell by their daily limits. Tongding Interconnection, ZTT, Yongding, and Yangtze Optical Fibre and Cable all dropped more than 6 percent. The optical fiber sector has seen staggering gains this year, driven primarily by a surge in demand for optical fiber from AI computing infrastructure, which has sent fiber prices soaring. Recently, companies like Hangzhou Cable and Yongding reported sharp growth in their first-half earnings forecasts, further confirming the industry's high prosperity. However, a wave of capacity expansion in the optical fiber industry has sparked market concerns about a repeat of the cyclical curse. Multiple industry insiders told Securities Times that new capacity still faces numerous hurdles before it can come online.
